The word Hotel derives from the french word hôtel. And hôtel which comes from the hôte meaning host.

Maître d’hôtel is the ultimate definition of a host that manage the public part or front of the house. And the primary function is to serve the guests to ensure satisfaction.

Now the Maître d’hôtel is also Jack of all trays. And what sets them apart is now matter in what position the serve the guest, they always serve with a childish smile.

My good friend John Haydon brought to my attention a study that indicated that a child smile about 400 times per day, and adults smile about 20 times a day.

So my Hotel friends bring out that inner child and start to serve with a childish smile.

It really doesn’t matter if you are on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest or YouTube if you still don’t serve your guests.

And if your serve your guests then you will discover that the guests don’t always need to be right.

If you have served your guests like a childish Maître d’hôtel then you have already anticipated your customers’ needs and wants.

Did you know that a smile is so contagious that it will turn a frown into a smile. And the reason guests ‘has’ always been right might lay in that you just forgot to smile.

So take the time to share a smile with someone.
